more Northern Scotland touring

The Clava Cairns are about 4,000 years old and were built to house the dead. The cemetery remained a sacred place in the landscape for millennia, and provides many clues to the beliefs of Bronze Age society.

They are circular structures of stones piled up to bury the dead.

The outer layer stones are larger than the inner layer.

There seems to be some significance in relation to the sun's rays.

We decided to rent a car and head for Northern Scotland as well as for provisioning before the canal trip.  We passed through towns like Thurso, Killmster, Lairg, Wick and Lybster.

We stopped at the Culloden Battlefield Trail

June 3- June 5 Passage to Inverness Scotland

We started out very early to appeal to the tide Gods in Inverness.  The current coming to Inverness is best at slack tide.  We left at 06:45.

What we forget is there are offshore drilling rigs and wind vanes in operation. You can see them on AIS

June 2 sail to Kirkehamn

June 2 was our ninth wedding anniversary. We sailed west trying to move but get closer to Scotland. The weather patterns were not the best so we had to make the best of what was on offer.  We had a lovely dinner at the only restaurant in town.
Tied to the fishing dock where the only place with any room since the Cat took up four slips.
